Industry approach · Software and SaaS

Users ask AI “which tool is good”.
How do you get your product into the answer?

Make sure AI can read, on your website and third-party pages, what your product does, what it costs, what the free plan’s limits are and how it differs from others. State every tier on the pricing page, write a page with a direct answer for each question users really ask, and make sure there is genuine discussion in reviews and communities. This is how our own product was built up.

How users ask

People choosing software love asking AI: what tools are there, which is free, what can replace what. The examples above are written from common phrasings; they are not measured search volumes. When we work for you, the questions come from your support logs, what sales is often asked, and the search terms in your product’s own search.

Types of questions users ask AI when choosing software, and what we do first
Question typeExampleWhat we do first
Finding a toolWhat tool can batch-edit product images?Use-case pages: one page per use case, opening with whether it can be done, how, and in how many steps
Asking about free plans and priceIs there a free plan; how much per monthThe pricing page states each tier’s quotas and limits, including what the free plan cannot do
Looking for alternativesXX alternativesAlternatives pages and comparison pages, each with at least one line on when another product is the better choice
Asking whether it canDoes it support Chinese, can it be used commercially, is there an APIAnswer in text in the FAQ and help docs, not only in screenshots and videos
DoubtsIs XX reliable, is it worth itState the limits and who it is not for; no invented user reviews

Our own example

Below is the year’s data, January to September 2026, from an AI video product our founder built. This is our own product, not a client case.

Counted in visitors, not sign-ups. New models launched and promotions ran in the same period, so we do not credit AEO with all of the growth. What it shows is that this path can work, not that your product will see the same numbers.

Where AI finds its answers

Overseas users mostly use ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI answers; users in China mostly use Doubao, DeepSeek, Yuanbao, Kimi and ERNIE. They often search first, then pick sources from the pages they find.

Sources for software products: why they matter and what we do
SourceWhy it mattersWhat we do
Website, pricing page, help docsMany product websites are single-page apps whose body text appears only after JavaScript runs, so crawlers get an empty shell. Of the 324 well-known websites we tested publicly, about a quarter cannot be read by AI crawlersHave the server deliver the body text of key pages directly; do not put pricing pages and docs behind a login
Third-party reviews and comparison articlesWhen users ask “which is better”, AI often draws on comparisons written by othersOrganize your facts into material review writers can use directly; if you send them free samples, ask them to disclose it
Community discussionQuestions and answers from real users are what AI uses to judge “what people say about you”Answered by your employees personally or by the official account, with identity disclosed; no sock puppets
Platforms in ChinaMaimai, Sohu account, NetEase account and Sspai are open to many AI crawlers; Zhihu is open only to Google, Bing and Baidu crawlers; WeChat official accounts are usable only by YuanbaoContent for users in China goes first where many AI assistants can read it

What to do first

BaselineSee where you score now

Score the website with the open-source geo-score; put 20 questions users really ask to the main AI assistants, and record whether you are mentioned now and whom they cite.

Unify the factsOne version of pricing and features

Each tier’s price, quotas and limits, supported languages, whether commercial use is allowed: each item recorded with its source and the date it was checked. When the product changes, you know which pages to update.

Find the questionsStart with one

Pick the question AI is often asked where your product is a natural answer. In our own example, it was one article answering “which tools are free”.

Write answer pagesOne page per real question

The opening paragraph answers directly, with a comparison table and a few FAQs, and states when another product is the better choice. No separate page for every phrasing.

Add sources, re-test weeklyChanges show over weeks

Review materials and community answers follow; ask a fixed set of questions every week and look at the rates over several weeks, not a single screenshot.

The most common traps for software products

Body text depends on JavaScriptCrawlers see an empty shell

Everything looks fine in the browser, but crawlers get an empty page. This is one of the rubric’s three gates; fail it and the score is capped at 40.

Price changed, pages did notAI keeps quoting the old one

When free quotas or prices change but old blog posts and help docs still show the old figures, AI will keep quoting the old price. When you change prices, check the fact sheet for the pages that need to change too.

Comparison pages that knock competitorsNobody believes them

A comparison page that only says you are good and others are bad is not believed by users, and does not look like fair material worth citing. State clearly when another product is the better choice.

Paid reviews and sock puppetsWe do not do this

Paying for undisclosed reviews, or using alt accounts to ask and answer your own questions in communities: once it is discovered, the whole brand gets hurt.

FAQ

Not listed here? Ask us by email or on Telegram.

Our product is aimed at users overseas and is in English. Can you work on it?

Yes. For products aimed overseas, the answers that matter most come from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI. Pages are written in English, the facts come from you, and every number has to be confirmed by you before it goes live.

Our product changes fast. Will the content soon be out of date?

Yes, which is why every number goes into the fact sheet with its source and the date it was checked, and is reviewed when due. When pricing or features change, one look at the fact sheet tells you which pages need to change with them.

Will comparison pages offend our competitors?

Not if the comparison is fair: facts with sources, a clear statement of whom each product suits, and at least one line on when another product is the better choice. Users trust pages like that, and they look more like material that can be cited.

Your own example took off within a few weeks?

It was a few weeks, but that is one product and one observation, and in the same period new models launched and promotions ran, so how much AEO contributed on its own cannot be separated out. That is why we only ever say “a few weeks”, give no exact number of weeks, and certainly do not treat it as a promise to you. Acceptance looks only at the AIV score.

We already have an SEO team. Do we still need you?

You can have us do only the diagnostic and hand the AI gaps and fixes to your team, or we write those few pages and your team maintains them. What matters is that both sides work from the same facts.
